Reviews: Introduction to XML Video

Brian Ashley, VP of Merchandising
CrossCommerce, San Francisco, CA

"Introduction to XML is a great video."

As an executive new to the internet, it provided me with very basic insight. The video takes you through various aspects of XML including historical development and perspective leading to why it is important today. The narrators are obvious industry veterans and innovators and are able to explain things in non-technical terms. I found the explanation and history of markup language especially enlightening.

David E. Garnett, President & CEO

"This video provides senior managers with a wake up call about the importance of properly using XML to provide the maximum international portability of their information."

This video does an excellent job of explaining the evolution of SGML to XML with clear example of how they relate to HTML. As the calendar hit 01-01-00 we clearly entered into an age where we'll see an explosion of multipurposed information available on virtually any platform. The use of XML will be the key for corporations that want to reuse and protect their corporate knowledge bases. This video has the right mix of technical and business perspectives on XML.

Diane Watson, Senior E-Commerce Consultant
Systrends, Inc.

"This tape shows how e-commerce is rapidly adopting this technology and why."

Systrends, Inc. ordered this tape and I watched it last week with some EDI colleagues. The review by the group was unanimous. We all thought the 79 minutes and $ was well spent.

In addition to being a great non-technical introduction to XML, especially from a business perspective, the video stars a number of key figures behind the development of XML: Jon Bosak (Sun Microsystems), Tim Bray (Textuality), Michael Sperberg-McQueen (University of Illinois at Chicago), Jean Paoli (Microsoft), and the father of SGML, Charles Goldfarb. I found it kind of neat to see what these guys look like having read their work.
