FlightSafety Boeing Training International
Synth-Bank® collaborated on the design and creation of an integrated authoring and content management system that enabled FSBTI to publish a comprehensive catalog of training materials in print, CD-ROM, and Web-based formats. The management system also archived the source materials so they could be accessed easily by future e-commerce applications.
FlightSafety Boeing Training International is an organization that provides training to pilots, navigators, flight attendants and aircraft maintenance personnel at over 20 locations worldwide.
FSBTI wanted to take advantage of the combined database expertise of Synth-Bank® and Booth Consulting (FSBTI's Oracle/Sun reseller) in order to migrate its entire catalog of training materials into a database-driven application. This application enabled the 2001 catalog to be published in multiple formats and allowed the catalog's materials to be shared by several applications that the company is expecting to implement in the near future.
Project Goals
Integrate the various source materials (video tapes, computer based media training, papers, drawings, and simulations) into a database repository
Enable the 2001 catalog to be published in print, CD-ROM, and web-based formats
Create a web-based editing interface to enable content and subject matter experts to enter data into the system from anywhere in the world
Archive the materials in a way that makes them easily accessible to future applications
Solution Summary
Synth-Bank® conducted an intensive knowledge management analysis of FSBTI's business processes and data modeling requirements and designed an open standards-based architecture to enable the system's individual software components to function as a single unified application.
XML was used as a data integration format to assist conversion the catalog's various source material formats into Oracle databases. Oracle's XML Tool Kit was used to create a web-based "light" editing environment that provided the application with an integrated front-end. Adobe Acrobat was also used to ensure high quality printed, CD-ROM and Web versions of the catalog.
