In 1994, Synth-Bank® began developing sophisticated knowledge management systems for the Frank Russell Company, a leading investment firm best known for its "Russell 2000 Index".
Russell's clients range from investors to information brokers, guiding the investments of more than $1 trillion dollars in over 25 countries. Russell publishes millions of pages of its information-based "products" every year.
Bryan Bell, Synth-Bank®'s President and Founder, was the Strategic Technologist for the Frank Russell Company from 1996-2000. During that time, he headed up the Advanced Technology Lab responsible for devising Russell's intellectual property publishing strategy, and pioneered the company's move from a "print then distribute" publishing model one of "distribute then print."
Bell's "Russell Publishing System", online since 1997, greatly increased the company's ability to produce state-of-the-art professional quality documents in internet enabled digital formats by reducing the turnaround time from 14 weeks to less than an hour.
The system's use of XML and data-driven document components enabled a completely automated and extremely reliable publishing system that only required a minimal amount of effort from its authors.
